Telegram plans multi-billion dollar ICO for chat cryptocurrency

Telegram plans multi-billion dollar ICO for chat cryptocurrency Encrypted messaging startup Telegram plans to launch its own blockchain platform and native cryptocurrency, powering payments on its chat app and beyond. According to multiple sources which have spoken to TechCrunch, the “Telegram Open Network” (TON) will be a new, ‘third generation’ blockchain with superior capabilities, after Bitcoin and, later, Ethereum paved the way. The launch will be funded with an enormous Initial Coin Offering, with forthcoming private pre-sales ranging into the hundreds of millions, potentially making it one of the largest ICOs to date. Demand is driven by the fact that rather than the ICO coming from a fresh startup, Telegram is a well-established messaging platform used around the world. Adopting a homegrown cryptocurrency could give Telegram’s payment system enormous independence from any government or bank — something Co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov is known to covet after inve...

Mark Zuckerberg is right to explore the potential of the blockchain for Facebook

Mark Zuckerberg is right to explore the potential of the blockchain for Facebook In what is Mark Zuckerberg’s now-traditional New Year speech, the Facebook supremo pledged to fix the social network’s many problems which bubbled up in 2017. Perhaps understandably, that admission hogged the headlines but Zuckerberg also said he plans to study encryption and the blockchain “see how best to use them in our services.” That statement comes amid a period of crypto frenzy, with the cryptocurrencies themselves rising in value significancy, and it’s already prompting some people to speculate on what companies Facebook should buy. It marks a rare time that the CEO of a major global tech company has committed to even exploring the blockchain. It’s really a no-brainer for Facebook to look into these technologies since there is serious potential to advance the current tech status quo in meaningful ways. In his post, Zuckerberg makes mention of international censorship and, in theory, ...

Barcelona to pay €7m to get Yerry Mina early Barcelona are reportedly closing in on a move for Palmeiras defender Yerry Mina. The club have an option to buy the Colombian after the FIFA 2018 World Cup but  want him to move to Camp Nou in January  as a replacement for Mascherano. The club have reportedly agreed a €9 million fee for Mina but  may have to pay Palmeiras an extra €7 million in compensation to complete the deal earlier  than expected. Mina will sign a five-year deal and will be the club's fourth-choice defender behind Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen. The 23-year-old centre-back is a tall, powerful defender who also can contribute goals. If Mascherano does leave in January as expected, Barcelona will certainly need a replacement, although Mina may find it difficult to adjust to a new league midway through the season.
